Council of Elders will offer wisdom and prayer support to Chapter preparations

Date: 16 Nov 2015

Venue: Mount St Joseph, Cork

Congregation Leader Br. Martin Kenneally recently invited Brothers over 80 to form a circle of prayer, wisdom and support as the Congregation prepares for Chapter 2017.

The inaugural meeting of the Council of Elders was held at Mount St. Joseph on October 14th 2015. Sr. Mary Dinneen (Presentation Sister) facilitated a sharing of wisdom and insights, which was followed by a beautiful lunch. GAA Commentator Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh was the guest speaker at the lunch. Micheál gave a wonderful input which was both entertaining and wise. At 85, he was leaving for Cardiff the following weekend for some rugby games and then on to China for the GAA Asian Games!

Commentating on the day, one Brother wrote: “A very sincere thank you to the CLT for organising the gathering of the Elders. Getting Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh was the icing on the cake!”

Another said: “Thanks to the staff at Mount St. Joseph and to the Novices for providing and serving the excellent meal.”

Finally, another Brother summed up the day as follows: “The gathering of the Council of Elders has taken place and, what was once only in our imagination, has become real. Hopefully in the months ahead we will be motivated in preparing for the General Chapter, especially with the support of our prayers.”
