Death of Brother Angelus Fitzpatrick

With sadness we announce the death of Brother Angelus (Edmund) Fitzpatrick, (82).

He died at Farranlea Nursing Home in Cork city at 6.30am this morning (Friday, 5th June 2015).

Brother Angelus was a member of our community in Maiville in Cork city and a native of Newcastle in County Tipperary.

Burial at Presentation Brothers, Mount St Joseph, Blarney St, Cork after Requiem Mass on Monday, 8th June, 2015.

Brother Angelus was born to James and Ellen (Marnane) Fitzpatrick in Boolahalla, Newcastle, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, on 21st July 1932.  He entered the Presentation Brothers at Mount St Joseph, Cork, in 1949.  He made his First Profession of Vows in 1951 and his Final Profession in 1954. 

He is survived by his brother, Seán; his sister, Mona; his sister-in-law, Rose; his brother-in-law, Jerry; his nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, relatives and friends; and his Presentation Brothers.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jim.

Brother Angelus was educated at Newcastle National School, Newcastle, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary; St Joseph’s Secondary School, Cahir, Co. Tipperary; Coláiste Muire, Douglas Road, Cork; St Teresa’s College, Passage West, Co. Cork and De La Salle College, Waterford. 

He taught in St Brendan’s National School, Birr; Scoil Iosaef Naofa, Cobh; St Joseph’s School, Mardyke, Cork city; Scoil Mhuire na Mainistreach, Killarney; Milltown Boys National School, Milltown, Co. Kerry and Scoil Chríost Rí, Turner's Cross, Cork .  He served as Principal at Scoil Mhuire na Mainistreach, Killarney; St Joseph’s School, Mardyke and Milltown Boys National School.  He retired from teaching in 1996.

He served as Superior of the Community at Killarney and as Bursar of the Communities at Mardyke House, Douglas and South Monastery.

During 1975-1978 Brother Angelus was Novice Master at Mount St Joseph, Cork.
