In Memoriam: Brother James Claver Flood FPM

Brother James Claver Flood of Presentation Brothers, Killarney, Co. Kerry died peacefully in Our Lady of Lourdes Care Facility, Kilcummin, Co. Kerry at 02.50am on Thursday, 5th May, 2016 (Feast of Blessed Edmund Rice).

Brother Claver was born to Patrick and Margaret (Johnson) Flood in Killybandrick, Redhills, Co. Cavan on 13th August 1924.  He entered the Presentation Brothers at Mount St Joseph, Cork in 1941.  He made his First Profession of Vows in 1943 and his Final Profession in 1946. 

He is survived by his nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, relatives and friends; and his Presentation Brothers Community.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters.

Brother Claver was educated at Killoughter National School, Redhills, Co. Cavan; Coláiste Muire, Douglas Road, Cork and De La Salle College, Waterford.  He taught at St Vincent’s School, Dartford, Kent, England; St Thomas More School, West Grinstead, West Sussex, England; South Monastery, Cork; Kinsale, Co Cork; Coláiste Thérèse, Greenmount, Cork; Coláiste Muire, Cork; Presentation College, Bray, Co. Wicklow and Milltown Boys National School, Milltown, Co. Kerry.  He served as Principal at St Joseph’s Industrial School, Cork; Coláiste Thérèse, Cork and Milltown Boys National School.  He retired from teaching in 1989. 

He served as Superior of the Communities at Kinsale, Co Cork; St Joseph’s Industrial School, Cork; Coláiste Thérèse, Cork; Milltown, Co Kerry and Killarney, Co Kerry.  He also served as Bursar at Coláiste Muire, Cork; Bray; Milltown and Killarney.

Funeral Arrangements: Reposing at O’Shea’s Funeral Home, Cathedral Place, Killarney on Sunday, 8th May, from 04.00pm to 06.00pm followed by Removal to St Mary’s Cathedral, Killarney.  Requiem Mass on Monday, 9th May, at 10.30am.  Burial afterwards at Aghadoe Lawn Cemetery, Killarney.
