Brothers of West Africa Province end retreat

Twenty seven Brothers of the West Africa Province have concluded their annual six-day retreat in the retreat centre at Goaso in the Brong Ahafo region.

The theme of the retreat was based on the 2011 Chapter Vision Statement; "Seeing in a new way, finding new hope and called anew to mission."

Read Br Philip Tengan's personal account of the retreat.

Br. Nee of the Holy Cross Brothers directed the retreat giving a 45 minute conference each morning with spiritual exercises and reflections in the evening. These included guided meditation, adoration, rosary prayers, healing service.  Private direction was also available each day.

The topics for the conferences were as follows:

Day 1- Discovering myself (Who am I?).

Day 2- My ‘unfreedoms’ (The things that block me from knowing and accepting myself).

Day3- Letting go, letting come.

Day 4- Communion with God and with ourselves.

Day 5- Listening to and for God.

Day6- Finding new hope: some biblical figures as examples.

On the last evening of the retreat, ten temporary professed Brothers renewed their vows. The four temporary professed Brothers who will be making final vows sometime this year had already renewed vows.

The Province Leader presented each of the temporary professed Brothers with a book by Fr. Ronald Rolheiser entitled “Our One Great Act of Fidelity: Waiting for Christ in the Eucharist”.

The retreat ended with a celebratory dinner.

“The will of God be done in this and in everything we undertake” (Blessed Edmund Rice).
