Edmund Rice Summer School in Waterford

The first ever Edmund Rice Summer School took place at Mount Sion in Waterford last weekend. The initiative was one of a series of events to mark the 250th anniversary of the birthday of Blessed Edmund Rice.

Cardinal Seán Brady, the Primate of All Ireland, opened the Summer School. His address may be read here.

Representatives from several organisations within the Edmund Rice Network were represented at the event including Marino Institute of Education; Edmund Rice Schools Trust (ROI and NI); Christian Brothers' Schools Office, England; Edmund Rice International; Edmund Rice Development; Edmund Rice International Heritage Centre; European Province of the Christian Brothers and the Anglo-Irish Province of the Presentation Brothers with the Presentation Brothers Schools Trust (PBST).

The School was addressed by Brother Philip Pinto, Congregation Leader of the Christian Brothers, and Brother Martin Kenneally, Congregation Leader of the Presentation Brothers. The keynote address was delivered by Professor Bart McGettrick, Dean of Education at Liverpool Hope University.
