The West Africa Province of the Presentation Brothers has opened a new mission in Han,
in the Upper West Region of Ghana. This was in response to a formal request made by
the Bishop Paul Bemile of Wa Diocese. Prior to the establishment of the mission,
the Province Leadership Team and Province Development Office made a number of
visits to Wa and Han to meet with the bishop and with the stakeholders there.
"After a series of consultations with the Brothers of the Province, the Congregation Leadership Team, and after making some feasibility studies in order to find out which area will be in most need of our services in the diocese, Han was finally chosen," explained Brother Francis Agoah, Province Leader.
In September two pioneer Brothers, Emmanuel Aminenta and Philip Tengan and a second year novice, Maxwell Orkuma, moved to Han (pictured above with Brother Francis). They are currently staying in a rented accommodation which belongs to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.
The
Brothers have since started work in a local Catholic school opened by the
parish which will be developed into a Presentation school. The Brothers will
however, continue to work in partnership with the parish, the district assembly
and the Ghana Education Service in a bid to offer quality Catholic education in
the area.

"With the financial support of a benevolent individual who has already supported a number of school projects in this province, we hope to begin the first phase of the construction of the school early next year," says Brother Francis.
"As Blessed Edmund Rice said, 'the seed will grow'."
